<p>We had the great pleasure of speaking to a Filipino Charge Nurse who moved her nursing career to Saudi Arabia to gain international experience, acquire new skills, earn a higher salary and broaden her nursing horizon. </p>
<h3>Thanks for speaking with us. Please introduce yourself to our readers.</h3>
<p>My name is <strong>Maria Rose Cadavona</strong>, I am 37 years old and currently work as an Operating Theater Charge Nurse here in King Faisal General Hospital, Al Ahsa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I have been working in the KSA for more than 10 years, 3 years in Neurosurgery Unit and 7 years in Operating Theater.</p>
<h3>What made you decide to leave the Philippines and move to Saudi Arabia?</h3>
<p>Reasons that made me decide to work abroad were:</p>
<ul><li>higher salary </li><li>to gain experience (especially skills)</li><li>my curiosity and </li><li>as a stepping stone to be more globally competent in the field of nursing.</li></ul>

<h3>Why did a career as a Charge Nurse appeal to you?</h3>
<p>I chose to work in healthcare because it was always my passion to become a nurse. Nursing is a noble profession and I care for different kinds of people from various backgrounds. My favorite part of being a charge nurse is when you become an advocate of patients’ rights and responsibilities, especially in rendering care to the clients.</p>

<h3>What is the best career advice you received?</h3>
<p>A piece of advice that was given to me is from my father. When I was in college he told me that to become successful in life you must study hard, be patient and give your best effort to reach your goals. Be content with what you have right now and focus on working your way to becoming successful.</p>
<h3>What makes you proud?</h3>
<p>My biggest achievement is being a professional nurse because I am able to care for a lot of people regardless of gender, race and status.</p>
<h3>As a child, what did you want to be when you became an adult?</h3>
<p>When I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming a singer because I love to sing but I am too shy to do it in public.</p>
<h3>What can we do to encourage more women to pursue their dreams?</h3>
<p>We can encourage them by helping them decide on what they want to do, assist or guide them in planning their goals and empower their skills for them to be confident and successful in achieving their dreams.</p>
<p>The message that I can give to the future generation of women is to be confident in everything you do as long as it is good and speak the truth confidently and with integrity. Do not fear judgment but rather listen to it in a positive way to help you grow and learn something from it.</p>

<h3>Who inspires you?</h3>
<p>The woman that inspires me the most is Ms. Angelina Jolie because she is a great example of a powerful woman. Aside from being a good actress, she is kind and a loving mother to her children. She promotes various causes, including conservation, education, and women’s rights, and is most noted for advocacy on behalf of refugees as a special envoy for the <a href="https://www.unhcr.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">UNHCR</a>.</p>
<h3>How can we inspire future generations?</h3>
<p>It is very important for me that women should help to lift each other up so we can give strength to each other, help build confidence within us and if we stand side by side will be able to withstand and overcome challenges and that is what women empowerment is to me.</p>
<h3>What sort of progression would you like to see within the healthcare sector?</h3>
<p>My hopes for the future are peace, equality, and respect for each other regardless of anyone’s status. May the world leaders are united to strengthen and help each other to create a peaceful world to live in.</p>
