<p>Carla Chedid is a Lebanese Psychologist living in the UAE. With 15+ years of experience behind her, Carla imparts some important career advice, discusses discrimination within the field of psychology and her hopes to build a school in Lebanon that supports both children and their parents with parenting, life balance, and well-being classes.</p>
<h2>Hi Carla. Please tell us a bit about where you’re from and your occupation. </h2>
<p>I am from Lebanon but live in Dubai, UAE. I am a <a href="https://www.openmindscenter.com/team/ms-carla/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clinical Psychologist and Psychomotor Therapist</a> with 15+ years of <a href="https://www.trueprofile.io/member/resources/mytrueprofile-digital-cv-highlights-work-experience/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">experience</a>.</p>
<h2>Why did you move from Lebanon to the UAE?</h2>
<p>I got married, and my husband <a href="https://www.trueprofile.io/member/resources/how-to-find-a-healthcare-job-in-dubai/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lives in Dubai</a>.</p>
<h2>Is discrimination prevalent within the field of Psychology?</h2>
<p>Psychology was founded by men, the “Fathers of Psychology”. However, industry breakthroughs have allowed women to work and pioneer within this field. Our work is well recognized and I can say that discrimination no longer exists in my field. </p>
<h2>Why did you want to become a psychologist?</h2>
<p>My passion is to cure people and to help them live a better life.</p>
<h2>What is your favorite part of being a psychologist?</h2>
<p>When I discharge a patient. </p>
<h2>What is your best career advice?</h2>
<p>Follow your passion and your gut!</p>
<p>Believe in yourself, answer your true self wishes and don’t comply with societal stereotypes. </p>
<h2>What is a memorable moment in your career?</h2>
<p>At a young age, I was as competent as seniors in other jobs, and I was the youngest president of a healthcare syndicate in Lebanon.</p>
<h2>When you were a child, what job did you want to do as an adult?</h2>
<p>Not a precise job, but I always helped kids and my peers at school. Even in KG, I used to take of children.</p>
<h2>What message do you want to send out to future generations?</h2>
<p>Learn how to raise your boys and girls equally so we can have a different world in the future. Teach them compassion, empathy and self-love.</p>
<h2>Who inspires you the most and why?</h2>
<p>Any woman who stands for her rights and brings change to her community. Unity brings power. <a href="https://www.trueprofile.io/member/resources/international-womens-day/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Women who stand together</a> can help each other with better mental health and productive lives. This will have a positive impact on their families and children in particular.</p>
<h2>Would you like to move back to Lebanon?</h2>
<p>I hope to go back to Lebanon one day and build a school where curriculums are based on life skills, emotional intelligence, well-being, and some academic concepts. This school will support children as much as their parents. Parents will have access to parenting, life balance, and well-being classes. </p>
