Mental health awareness month was established to raise awareness of various mental issues. Not only that, this month was founded to reduce the stigma often associated with mental health issues. This awareness month encourages anyone who needs support to seek and accept it.

It is more important now than ever to understand how we feel, why we think and feel a certain way, and realize that there are many resources available for anyone who struggles with their mental health.

What is Mental Health?

Let’s go back to basics and answer the question, “What is Mental Health?”

Mental health is a combination of emotional, psychological, and social well-being. These factors will affect how we feel and react to situations, environments and thought processes.

According to the World Health Organization, mental health is about not only avoiding active conditions but also involves looking after ongoing wellness and happiness.

Mental Health Awareness

Mental health awareness is “having or showing realization, perception or knowledge.” This also means showing your understanding of what you or someone else is dealing with. Common methods include speaking to family or friends, campaigns, stories, or tips on specific social channels or legislative processes.

Take Care of Your Mental Health

There are many different ways to take care of your mental health. Many people like to go for a walk, exercise, or anything that helps relax their minds. In the healthcare industry, burnout is a common factor that impacts mental health. However, it can be managed and overcome by setting boundaries, seeking support, exercising, engaging in therapeutic activities, or changing your setting entirely.

Another common struggle is finding or maintaining motivation in your work. Most likely, this is temporary, and the good thing is that these mental obstacles can be overcome. It may be a case of learning to change your outlook on your work and life by finding reasons to get you out of bed in the mornings, finding meaning in your career, or taking some time off work.
