<p>February 11th was declared the <strong>International Day of Women and Girls in Science</strong> by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. This day celebrates and recognizes the role of women and girls in science as agents of change. </p>
<p>To honor this day, we shine a spotlight on some of our incredible members who play a critical role as healthcare workers on the front lines. One thing that these women have in common is that they are all positive role models to peers, colleagues and future generations.</p>

<h3><strong>🇿🇦</strong> Sidumisile Dumisani – Midwife 🇦🇪</h3>

<p>South African midwife Sidumisile Dumisani (Dumi) works in the UAE and holds a BCur Nursing degree and a Masters degree in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing. Dumi plans to enroll for a Ph.D. and continue empowering herself “to become not just the best midwife but a woman with drive and passion that contributes to the world by empowering other women to be the best in what they do.”</p>

<p>General Dentist Ruba Elsayed was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. She spent time working in Sudan and KSA. Ruba describes herself as a “knowledge enthusiast” and hopes to work in a research facility in the USA because of the country’s appreciation for science and knowledge.</p>

<p>With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy Charito Hernandez set herself up for a successful career overseas. As a result, Charito set herself up to succeed as a respiratory therapist in Saudi Arabia. </p>

<p>Mary Yngelia Burgos graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Major in Nursing from the College of St. John Roxas in the Philippines in 2011. After a productive gap year teaching the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam (PNLE), Mary headed off to nurse in Saudi Arabia.</p>

<p>Christine Burias is an ICU Nurse working in Saudi Arabia. She comes from the Bulan Sorsogon in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. Christine discusses how working in a diverse and ever-changing healthcare system has helped her become a professionally and culturally competent health care practitioner.</p>
