Hello Surya. Thanks for speaking with us. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Dr. Surya Rajan Kurian. I’m a periodontist and originally from India. I have been living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the last 2 years and working on getting my professional license to practice professionally in this country.

What prompted you to make an international move?

My husband’s family settled in the UAE and after I got married, I moved here with them. My priority was to balance my healthcare career and family together.

As a woman, what do you wish you knew before moving your life and career overseas?

I feel I should have been more independent. At home, we always have the upper hand in whatever we do professionally. We always have people to support us. But in an international environment, one needs to be more independent and confident in every move. So I think as women, we should practice more independence within ourselves.

Hi Carla. Please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Carla Chedid, and I work as a psychologist in the UAE. I’m originally from Lebanon and have been working with children and their parents with parenting for over 15+ years.

Why do you recommend a career in psychology?

Being a psychologist is very exciting because it is a continuous personal development process. You always reflect on the kind of person you want to be in life. You encounter new emotions and work on them, so it indirectly helps you improve your overall well-being.

What advice would you give to women in healthcare who want to advance their careers?

First of all, there should be ambition. Secondly, you should be willing to work on yourself for professional development. Participate in workshops, training, or webinars. You should set a goal based on what you want to achieve and where you want to reach in your lifetime. And lastly, make sure you have a good work-life balance. When moving ahead in your career, don’t neglect the other aspects of life. Move forward in a balanced way.

How has TrueProfile.io helped you in your professional life?

When I moved to the UAE, I did a lot of research on getting my credentials verified for my Dubai Health Authority (DHA) license. That’s when I came across DataFlow and TrueProfile.io.

Having verified credentials has really helped me find the right job. I would say it was really helpful in kickstarting my career in the UAE.

Hello Hilaria. Please give our readers a brief overview of your career?

Hi! I am Hilaria Viveiros, and in 2005 I started my career as a surgical nurse in Portugal. I then shifted to neurology and continued working in Portugal. In June 2022, I moved to Saudi Arabia with my husband, and I am currently working at a hospital as a neurosurgical nurse.

As a woman, did you find more benefits in working as an international nurse?

In Saudi Arabia, there are better shifts for nurses. We work for three days and get three days off. Back home, we didn’t have this arrangement. I used to work for five or six days in a row and got only one day off in the week. So, I found it hard to balance my work and personal life.

The salary structure is also much better in Saudi Arabia, which is an added benefit.

Do you have any tips for women exploring nursing jobs in Saudi Arabia?

I would definitely encourage everyone to apply for nursing jobs in Saudi Arabia. It’s a whole new world! The hospitals are certified, and the technology is way more advanced. The culture in Saudi Arabia is very different from the European culture, and I feel like it has helped me push my boundaries. For example, I don’t speak Arabic, and even my English is not that great, but I’m slowly learning how to interact with patients who speak in Arabic.

I feel it makes you grow as a person – not only professionally but also personally. When you start to accept the differences around you, your relationships start to improve. I encourage everyone to Apply for their dream job and to look at it as an adventure!
